Obituary for Lillian Holmes Crenshaw (Reekes)

Lillian Reekes Crenshaw, age 96, died Thursday, Dec. 15, 2016. She was preceded by her parents Walter & Eva Reekes; her brothers, Bernard, Bill, Linwood and Jack Reekes; and her sisters, Louise Hawthorn, Nancy Rock, Helen Hastings, and Ann Wells. Mrs. Crenshaw is survived by her nephew, Rosser Wells (Carleen), a special great nephew Collin R Wells, her nephews Rick Hastings, Charles Reekes, (Elizabeth); her niece, Linda W. Daniel (Paul Duffer); and great nieces Heather Wells Taylor (Brandon), LuAnn Reekes; great- nephews, David, Ken & John Daniel along with several other great nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her good friends Nancy & Norman Talley, Tina Howerton, and Mattie Robertson.
Mrs. Crenshaw was retired from the Defense General Supply Center with more than 28 years of service. She was the accountant officer responsible for all supplies owned and stored by the DGSC in the USA. During her career she was awarded many certificates for outstanding & superior performance including a special DGSC plaque.
She is a retired member of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary being commander for two years for Flotilla C, Topping, VA; past member of Rappahannock Ruritan Club; Windmill Point Yacht Club, Whitestone, VA; Hartfield V.F.D. Auxiliary as president for 5 years; Huguenot Woman's Club, Richmond, VA, and currently a member of CMH Volunteers/Auxiliary, South Hill, VA.
After retirement she left Richmond, VA, her home for many years, and moved to the Northern Neck where she made her home there for 30 years on the good ole Rappahannock River and the Potomac River. In 1988, loving the water as she did, she moved to South Hill, her birth place. After 5 years the river called her back to Creekside III, Toppings, VA where she remained until 2006 when health reasons forced her to return to South Hill.
A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 2:30pm, Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at Westhampton Memorial Park, Richmond, VA. The family will receive friends Sunday, December 18 from 3-5pm at her residence.
