Obituary for Robert William "Buddy" Harper

Robert William "Buddy" Harper, age 90, of Franklin, VA, a native of Bracey, VA, passed peacefully on Monday, April 9, 2018 surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Bertha, his children Becky Owens (Mark) of Columbus, OH; Janice Harper of Suffolk, VA; Susan Francis (Joey) of Franklin, VA; Robert Harper, Jr. (Mary) of Broad Run, VA; six grandchildren, Elizabeth Epstein (Ethan), Ashley Moody (Spencer), Grace Francis, Ben Francis, Robbie Harper and Catie Harper and a great granddaughter, Adara Epstein. He is also survived by a sister Laura James Whitlock and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents Willie Jackson Harper and Robbie Fittz Harper, and a brother Morris Fittz Harper.
He was a veteran of the US Army and retired from Allied Signal after a long career in the textile industry. Aside from his family, one of his passions in life was clock repair. He spent over 65 years building, collecting and repairing clocks.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 1pm, Friday, April 13 at Crestview Memorial Park, LaCrosse, VA. The family will receive friends following the service at Kingswood United Methodist Church, Bracey, VA 23919. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Southside Rescue Squad, P O Box 546, South Hill,VA 23970 of which Buddy was a charter member.
