Obituary for Jacquelyne Ruth "Jackie" Davis (Anderson)

Jacquelyne Ruth Anderson Davis, 77, passed away on Saturday, April 28th at VCU Hospital in Richmond, Virginia from injuries resulting from a fall. Jackie was born in Rich Square, NC on November 15, 1940. She grew up in Severn, NC with her two younger sisters and older brother. She graduated from Chowan College where she was a cheerleader and homecoming queen.
Over the years she and her family lived in North Carolina and Virginia. In her professional career, she worked as a secretary early on before taking on additional administrative responsibilities in manufacturing and hospital settings.
She was creative as a homemaker, seamstress and craftsperson. She was as likely to pickup a jigsaw to cut paneling for the den as she was to knit a sweater or make curtains. She was an avid reader who joyfully embraced the technology of her Kindle. Her true passion was as a seamstress; she loved her sewing machines as members of her family.
Jackie was very proud of her children and grandchildren as evidenced by the huge wall of photographs in her house. She loved sharing their accomplishments with her friends. She referred to her grandchildren as her “special joys.” She is survived by her daughter, Laura Davis; son, Steve Davis, his wife, Sonya and grand-daughter, Casey; daughter, Ruth Proctor, her husband, Tom and grandson, Ian.
Having lost two siblings and her mother in quick succession, she moved to South Hill to be closer to her youngest sister, Sarah Pratali and her family. They spent hours together reminiscing, kidding each other and discussing sewing projects. Sarah’s husband, Meade, provided much kindness and essential sense of humor, making Jackie’s life all-the-more engaging. She was grateful to have Sarah’s children and grandchildren nearby both as a help and for their youthful exuberance.
Jackie’s South Hill friends, Carolyn and Jane, meant the world to her. We are grateful for their loving kindness to our mother and sister.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the healthcare professionals at VCU Hospital in South Hill and Richmond. Their compassionate professionalism helped our family navigate very difficult circumstances.
A memorial service is planned for Thursday, May 3rd, at New Hope Baptist Church on Route 138 in South Hill at 11 o’clock.
In lieu of flowers, consider making a donation to PATHS Inc., health centers serving southern Virginia, 705 Main Street, Danville, VA 24541 or www.pathsinc.org.
