Obituary for Willie Clarence "Bill" Averett Jr.

Print
It is with indescribable sadness that I announce that the light & love of my life Willie Clarence “Bill” Averett, Jr., left this world for a better place on November 7, 2018. Bill was predeceased by his mother Nettie Smart Averett & his father Willie Clarence Averett. Bill was born on January 7, 1951 & grew up free-range & happily in Crewe, VA. He was a member of Crewe Baptist Church & made many lifelong friends in Crewe before moving to Chester to complete his high school education at Thomas Dale. Bill excelled at football & was invited to play at VA TECH. Bill loved life, his wife, his many pets, his home, his family & friends, the beach & bay, fires in the fireplace, dips in his hot tub, golf cart rides around his farm, wildlife, fishing, football (especially the Hokies), beach music, good food, fine whiskey & was always game for a party. Bill was a kind & quietly generous man with a finely tuned sense of humor. He loved animals so much that he founded Amelia Patrons for Animal Welfare, Inc. (APAW) which has been helping animals for over 20 years. He established a pet food donation program to the local food bank 9 years ago & never missed a giveaway, donating over 40,000 pounds of pet food to needy families & their pets. Left to mourn his enormous loss is his devoted wife of 34 years Patty Courter Averett with whom he shared a joyful & delightful life, his sister Linda Averett Vernon & her daughter Melonie Lee, great nieces Shelby Kidd & Mya Lee, sister-in-law Susan Wade & husband Ben, brother-in-law Carlton Courter & wife Scarlett, nephews Justin Wade & Carl Courter, & his beloved fur babies Mia, Rosie, Sandy & Maddie as well as many old & new friends. In lieu of flowers please send donations to APAW., P.O. Box 725, Amelia, VA 23002 or the Wounded Warrior Project (or any animal rescue group or veterans group of your choosing). A celebration of Bill’s life will be held on Sunday, December 9th at our home beginning at 1:00 PM. Please bring your stories of Bill to share. Condolences may be registered at www.farrarfuneralhome.net. Farrar Funeral Home of South Hill, VA is serving the Averett family.
