Lawrence Carl  Maddux
Retired CSM Lawrence Carl Maddux, age 77 of South Hill, died Sunday, July 19, 2015 at his residence. He is survived by his wife, Lucy H Maddux of the home, a daughter, Edna Ruth Mitchell and two grandchildren, Lucille Anderson Hargrave and Sterling Rose Hargrave.

Lawrence was retired from the Virginia Army National Guard after 35 years of dedicated service, culminating with the 5 years of service as 29th Infantry Division (Light) G-4 Command Sergeant Major. Lawrence enlisted for his life long service on August 5, 1955. He was a graduate of the Sergeant Major Academy. His awards, decoration, metals, and commendations include the Meritorious Service Metal, Army Commendation Metal - 5th Award, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Armed Forces Reserve Metal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Metal, National Defense Service Metal, Virginia Service Metal - 31 years Bar and Virginia Commendation Metal. Lawrence served as the Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor of MATES at Ft. Pickett, VA .In addition to his military service he was a member of the Masonic Lodge #297 in South Hill and a past member of American Legion Post 79.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11am, Wednesday, July 22, 2015 by Rev. Ronnie Campbell. Interment will follow in Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery with Masonic Rites and Military Honors.
