Obituary for Jean Miller Fore

Jean Miller Fore, age 57, passed away peacefully at home on July 31, 2015 after a brief battle with cancer. She is survived by her daughter, Jacqueline Ann (Jackie) Fore of Powhatan; brother Dr. Jim Miller and his wife Patty; niece Becky (Miller) Davis and her husband Robert, great nephews Will, Oliver, and Alex; and nephew Chris Miller and his wife Betsy. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Dr. Thomas (Tom) Fore, Jr. and parents Bob and Nancie Miller.

Both Jean and her soul mate Tom attended Huguenot Academy with Jean as a member of the Class of 1976. They both went on to study at Virginia Tech where she majored in Home Economics. Jean also had a teaching degree from Virginia Commonwealth University. After her graduation from Tech and their marriage in 1980, Jean began her teaching career in Alabama while Tom attended veterinary school. Upon their return to Richmond, she taught for over thirty years in Chesterfield County, imparting her love and passion for math to thousands of students passing through the halls of both Robious and Tomahawk Creek Middle Schools before her retirement this past June. She was an active member of Bethany Christian Church, where she served as a deacon, chairman of the Education Committee, as well as head of both the Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She was instrumental in the Create Worship service and took great delight in organizing Bethany’s annual Halloween haunted house. Jean played softball for the Ambassador Bombers and Hydro Hitters, was a member of the Richmond Ski Club, and participated in Master’s swimming. She was a devoted wife, mother, aunt, daughter, and friend who loved God, her Hokies, and most of all—her family. She and Tom delighted in raising their daughter Jackie—watching her many dance recitals, competitions, singing at church, and softball games. One of Jean’s great joys came in just the last week of her life when she learned that Jackie will continue the proud family tradition as a Virginia Tech Hokie beginning in 2016 after her graduation from Powhatan High School as one of the top achievers in her class. Jean will be greatly missed by everyone who loved her so dearly, but we find solace in knowing that she and Tom are finally reunited in God’s loving arms.

A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted by Dr. William Blake, Jr at 11:00am, Saturday, August 8 at Bethany Christian Church with a reception to follow. The family requests memorial considerations be made to the Jean and Tom Fore, DVM, Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o VT, Univ Development (0336) Blacksburg, VA 24061, or the charity of your choice. Online condolences may be placed at www.farrarfuneralhome.net. Farrar Funeral Home of South Hill is serving the family.
